Solace

Solace is a collection of my mixed media abstract artwork.

During the lockdowns in 2020, while I was unable to continue running my leatherworking business, I turned my creativity towards experimenting with mixed media painting. 

​

In much the same way as I was drawn to decay in my photography and digital artwork, I found inspiration in the unconventional application of paints and textures to echo that aesthetic, creating layered and dramatic abstract scenes using muted tones and allowing the paint to direct the journey to the finished piece.

​

Art as a way to heal from anxiety and depression is something I've been exploring, especially in my mixed media work. The tactile and random nature of the process is a welcome relief from the rigid demands of my past customer based design and craft practices.

​

Although I've so far only worked on small scale canvases and boards,  I'm keen to expand my mixed media art practice and create much larger pieces as soon as I'm able to find a suitable space to work from.
